Report at a Glance

Prepared by the Alberta Biodiversity Monitoring Institute (ABMI), this report summarizes the status and trends for a suite of land cover and biodiversity indicators in the Alberta-Pacific Forest Industries Inc. (Al-Pac) Forest Management Agreement (FMA) area, building on previous assessments completed in 2009, 2014, and 2020. It draws on the ABMI’s province-wide monitoring data to evaluate how natural landscapes and species are responding to human footprint, wildfire, and the combined effects of land base change over time.

Al-Pac

This report provides an independent, science-based assessment of land and biodiversity trends; it represents just one way of understanding change on the land.

Its findings are grounded in one specific, regional-scale western scientific approach, and does not reflect Indigenous lived experiences or worldviews, or local-scale community-based monitoring programs. Equally important are Indigenous-led results that carry generations of lived knowledge, stewardship, and deep cultural connection to this boreal forest landscape.
